Modeling the Morphodynamic Response of Estuarine Intertidal Shoals to Sea?Level Rise

چکیده
Intertidal shoals are key features of estuarine environments worldwide. Climate change poses questions regarding the sustainability intertidal areas under sea-level rise (SLR). Our work investigates SLR impact on long-term morphological evolution unvegetated sandy in a constrained channel-shoal system. Utilizing process-based model (Delft3D), we schematize short tidal system rectangular (2.5 × 20 km) basin with high-resolution grid. An initial, mildly sloping, bathymetry is subjected to constant semidiurnal forcing, sediment supply, and small wind-generated waves modeled by SWAN. A positive morphodynamic feedback between hydrodynamics, transport, morphology causes emergence large-scale patterns. Over centuries, tide-residual transport gradually decreases leading state low activity balanced tides, waves, supply. Tidal currents main driver adaptation. Wave action leads wider lower but does not fundamentally evolution. increased flood dominance which triggers import into Shoals accrete response lag that increases as accelerates, eventually causing drown. Seaward near open boundary source have higher accretion rates compared landward shoals. Similarly, shoal-scale, highest occur at shoal edges bounding suppling channels. larger supply enhances Waves help distribute supplied from channels across Adding mud fractions faster, more uniform, muddier SLR.

Assessing the response of estuarine intertidal assemblages to urbanised catchment discharge.
Measurement of intertidal rock assemblages was investigated as a potential biological indicator to provide a quantitative estimate of the impact of urbanised catchment discharge on the estuaries of Sydney, Australia, from 1995 to 1999. Based on the presence and characteristics of adjacent human activities, sampling locations were categorised as: Bush; Urban; Urban with Sewer Overflows; and Indu...

A two-dimensional model for the erosion generated by viscous free-surface flows, based on the shallow-water equations and the lubrication approximation, is presented. It has a family of self-similar solutions for straight erodible channels, with an aspect ratio that increases in time. It is also shown, through a simplified stability analysis, that a laminar river can generate various bar instab...
